Low Blood Pressure
A normal blood pressure of 120/80 is a goal that many people try to achieve in order to avoid the symptoms and complications of high blood pressure. Yet when blood pressure is too low it can result in symptoms that require ER visits to determine the exact cause.
Blood pressure is measured by the amount of pressure againts the arterial walls, generated when the heart is pumping blood or relaxed. Blood pressure is measured in two sets of numbers. The first number is the systolic reading, which is the force against the arterial wall when the heart is beating as the cuff is deflated. The second number is the diastolic number, the pressure in your arteries when the heart relaxes and fills with blood (Weatherspoon and MacGill, 2023).
Maintaining a blood pressure equal to or lower than 120/80 is considered healthy, but if measurements fall below 90 systolic or 60 diastolic, serious complications may arise. Some people have low blood pressure all the time, often with no symptoms, while others may develop it as a result of pregnancy, medication or dehydration, after standing up or eating or more seriously after blood loss or allergic reaction as well as other conditions. Consequently, having a portable blood pressure machine at home to check your blood pressure and pulse perioidically as well as when experiencing symtoms is important.

Treatment of Low Blood Pressure
Requires immediate attention and visit with your practitioner to determine the cause or recommend a higher level of care. It is important to address the underlying cause when treating low blood pressure. Certain medications can also help treat the condition. Although low blood pressure may not cause problems for most people, maintaining a healthy blood pressure is important in order to maintain health and prevent injury.
